Goal Type:

Boston Qualifier

Running Accomplishments:

PRed in Malibu Nov. 2009 with a 4:00:25, I think.  Shy of sub-4 hours and shy of BQ 3:45.

Other marathon times:

May 2009: Orange County (4:21) and LA (4:15)

Feb. 2010: Surf City (4:09)

Took a couple years off from running in 2013-2014. Haven't done any marathons since 2011 though I started doing half marathons again in 2017.

Short-Term Running Goals:

Still want to qualify for Boston (3:55).

Want to qualify for the NYC Marathon by running a 1:42 half marathon.

Upcoming Races

Long Beach Half Marathon Oct. 8

Surf City Marathon Feb. 2018--I'm training to try to BQ.

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to keep running marathons into my 70s.

Personal:

Keep close to Nature's heart...and break clear away, once in awhile, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods.  Wash your spirit clean. --John Muir

I stole this from Tom's blog because I really like it:

Hudson tidbit: "When it's done right, the long-term training process is like an asymptote. The line that the training process moves toward but never reaches is 'perfect training'.....while it's impossible to train perfectly, it is possible to train better and better."

Was worried about not getting my mileage in cuz I'm scuba diving on Saturday and work was busy this week.  But I just got in my last 5 miles.  Did it in under 48 minutes.

I didn't run yesterday because I scuba dived Sat. and Sun. and my knees were hurting from carrying all that weight.  Thought it best to give the knees a rest.

Ran this 7 miles in 1:07, and it felt good.

Worried shin splints might be coming.  But I have followed EVERY rule to avoid them, so I'm bummed.

8 miles in 1:17.  The plan was to increase my usual 6 to 7, but I didn't plan the route in advance, and I estimated wrongly.  I had to hurdle a snake that was lying on the path.  Let out a good startled scream.  Good times.

Felt sluggish probably because of the heat, hills, long run on Tues, over working, and lack of sleep.  Finished it in 1:00 though.

It was over 100 degrees today!  I didn't run before it got hot so I had to wait until it got dark.  Still it was 88 degrees when I started and 86 when I finished an hour later.  Sweat like never before.  Good ol' Gatorade.

Still hot even at 6am, so I was sluggish.  Did the 6.5 in 1:05.
